PSA: this is not my regular sports post to complain about the Jets’ offseason moves (Brandon Marshall, why?) or to hear about the most recent mess with the Knicks. Instead, I’d like to give a special shout out to women everywhere with one goal in mind: taking over the world.
Shout out to the divas. The ones who always want their presence to be known, whether their walking down the street or sitting at their desks. The women who are not scared to speak up because for so long, their voices were hushed and overlooked. The ones who come off as cocky instead of confident because their high self-esteem seems to be too much for people to take in.
Shout out to the introverts. The ones who may be shy and a loner, but still have the brightest ideas in the room. The ones who would rather sit back and listen than stand up and talk because they are thinking of the next step. The ones who are in their element when they’re alone with headphones in.
Shout out to the risk-takers. The ones who are willing to pick up everything to go and follow their dreams. The ones who don’t mind being the only woman in a room full of men. The ones who are scared of failure, so much so they stay up late every night looking for new ways to take over.
Shout out to the perfectionists. The ones who agonize over how to make something fit their high standards. The ones who won’t accept anything other than excellence. The ones who drive others crazy because she pushes them to the limit. The ones who want greatness for not only themselves, but everyone around them.
Shout out to the trendsetters. The ones who were bullied growing up for being eccentric. The ones who couldn’t quite fit into a clique growing up so they created their own lane. The ones who have learned to not care about opinions of others. The ones who grew up to be successful and laughed at those who doubted her.
Shout out to the “she bosses”, the hustlers. The women making something out of nothing. The ones surviving in this world by creating for themselves. The ones who you look up to and aspire to be like one day. The mothers, the aunties, the sisters.
Shout out to the future. The girls who don’t fully grasp what the “real world” has in store, but have set high goals to achieve. The girls who found role models, not only on television, but in the classroom and in their homes. The girls who are in awe of the excellence a woman can hold.
Most importantly, shout out to the women who are underappreciated and feel defeated at times. We are beautiful. We are gamechangers. We are magical.
I’m Kayla Nyree. and whatever will be, will be!
